Description
This panel was developed by and is maintained by VCGS.

Brain channelopathies typically cause episodes of neurological dysfunction including a combination of ataxia, dystonia, abnormal extra movements, leg stiffness, weakness, headache and nausea. The episodes can last a few minutes or hours. Some patients have a primary headache in the form of hemiplegic migraine.

The Alternating Hemiplegia_Hemiplegic Migraine, Paroxysmal Dyskinesia, Ataxia and Dystonia panels may be considered where the clinical presentation is less clearly indicative of a brain channelopathy.

This panel has been compared against the Genomics England 'Brain Channelopathy' panel with all discordances resolved and reciprocal feedback provided to Genomics England PanelApp, 20/8/20.
